Three of a Kind definition and meaning

Three of a kind is a poker term used to describe a hand comprised of three cards, all of which are of the same rank. Additionally, the suit of the cards used to get three of a kind doesn’t matter as long as they’re of the same rank.

During a game of Texas Hold’em, for example, players have only two cards in their hands. This means you will need to use at least one community card to get this poker hand.

In some cases, you might have two or even three community cards of the same rank, allowing you to automatically form three of a kind. However, a lot of poker players are wary of such situations, chiefly because having three of a kind on the table means that forming quads or a full house is a lot more probable.
