House Rules definition and meaning

House rules is a gambling term that refers to a set of rules outlined by a casino or sportsbook establishment. Most often, the term is used to describe the terms and conditions of playing in a gambling establishment.

These rules can be general casino rules or they can be a new set of rules specific to that gambling establishment. For example, some casinos have specific dress codes and won’t allow you to enter if you’re in, let’s say, sportswear and shorts. Another example is never to touch other players’ chips — this rule is applied across all casinos.

In addition, the term can also refer to betting rules agreed upon by the players or the rules regarding a private poker evening between friends, even though it’s rarely used in this context.
