Pit definition and meaning

Pit is a term that refers to specific areas in brick-and-mortar casino establishments designated for casino games.

Depending on the size of a casino and its general design, a casino can have one or more pits. Regardless of the number of pits a casino has, each pit serves the same purpose.

Namely, there are different types of casino games grouped inside a pit, be it table games or slot machines. All the games are arranged around the central area reserved for the casino personnel, like pit bosses and croupiers.

Pits exist so that everything can run smoothly in a casino and to easily organise the casino’s personnel and determine who’s going to be working at which table. Furthermore, since the games are placed around the pit, the casino staff can quickly tend to any table in their pit.
