Line Bet definition and meaning

Line bet is a gambling term that has various meanings and is most often used in sportsbooks, as well as in both online and land-based casinos.

When it comes to sportsbooks, a line bet refers to a bet between two teams or players when there are only two possible outcomes. This type of bet is often used when there is a big difference in odds between two teams.

Sportsbooks then add a handicap to one team and make line odds equal. To win a line bet, a team or player you’re betting on must cover the line. For example, if you are betting on basketball and the team you are betting on has a -10 point handicap, to win your bet, your team must win with 11 points or more.

When it comes to the use of line bet in casinos, the term is used in roulette and once again, it refers to the type of bet you can place. In roulette, a line bet is also known as a six-line bet, as it allows you to bet on six numbers simultaneously. By placing a chip on a line between two rows of numbers, you can bet on, let’s say 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, and 9. Just make sure the chip is on the line between 4 and 7.
